Cat Valente reading...

I went to see Catherynne M. Valente read tonight at Word Bookstore in Brooklyn, and and and it effing ruled, it was so good. And she signed all my books. Yay.

I'll edit this later into a bigger post with possibly pictures.

EDIT: K, sooo under the cut, I have included pictures and video of the event. It was great - Brian Slattery and the West Constantinople Squeezebox All-Stars played while she read, and there were two belly dancers and a burlesque performer. It was seriously magical. I loved every moment of it. The book she read from was her newest one: "Habitation of the Blessed." It's based on the legend of Prester John. Quick excerpt from a larger description of the book:

This is the story of a place that never was: the kingdom of Prester John, the utopia described by an anonymous, twelfth-century document which captured the imagination of the medieval world and drove hundreds of lost souls to seek out its secrets, inspiring explorers, missionaries, and kings for centuries. But what if it were all true? What if there was such a place, and a poor, broken priest once stumbled past its borders, discovering, not a Christian paradise, but a country where everything is possible, immortality is easily had, and the Western world is nothing but a dim and distant dream?

Also would like to add that I got all my books signed by Cat, and she was really kind, and I was a huge, awkward dweeb. And my dad, always voluble no matter where he is, blabbed to her about Greece and Turkey and actually had a conversation with her. And it was kind of surreal.

Anyway! Onwards.

That excerpt was awesome! I can only imagine what the rest of her books are like! I'll be looking for her name when I go to work tomorrow. I am also buying a lot of books online so I'll check her out there as well.
